THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

The doctors were able to get all of the tumor and he is healed and feeling much better! Banner just joined our rescue a few months ago and has been excelling in our program. He is a sweet, smart five-year-old thoroughbred off the track.

THANK YOU MAX!

THANK YOU CATS AND DOGS RULE!
A big thank you goes out to Cats and Dogs Rule of Newtown for collecting all these donations for Royce's Rescue!  Charlie and all the rescue animals are very grateful for your kindness!

THANKS FOR A GREAT YEAR!
2018 proved to be a fabulous year for Royce's Rescue. We rescued and found loving homes for several dogs and horses that needed our help and were able to find wonderful homes for 215 cats and kittens, including 16 we brought up from Hurricane Florence to help other rescues in a time of need. The tireless efforts of all our volunteers were what made this possible. They never complain or give up when it comes to the animals. The food drives and donations from our community have been remarkable from Girl Scouts, Bar Mitzvah projects, senior citizens, high school students completing their LINCS hours for community service and even a day care with small children learning the importance of helping animals. It is our goal this year to get more of the community involved to gain constant awareness to the plight of these animals.
FUNDRAISER
Watch for news about our biggest fundraiser, the Royce's Rescue Benefit Horse Show on May 5th here at Sommerfield Stables. We have a huge raffle table with used tack, raffle baskets, pretzels, candy, etc. Please think of us close to this time for your donations. If you can make blankets, pillows, anything you like, we will raffle it to raise money to care for the rescue animals. If you are a business or know someone who owns a business, please let them know that we are looking for sponsors for this important event.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We are looking for people who would be willing to foster dogs until we are able to find them that special home. Let us know if you would be interested. In addition, we are always looking for foster homes for our cats and kittens to get them ready for adoption.

Thank you all for everything you do all year to help the rescue, and for everything you've done in 2018. With your help, we are looking forward to an even better 2019!

A REAL FEEL GOOD STORY

Every once in a while we are reminded why we work so hard to help animals, and ultimately, people.

Tim Reeves wasn't looking for a new dog, but when Oliver came along and needed a new home desperately, he gave it another try.  Here is his story...

OliverTim.JPG

December 26, 1969, I walked into the local firehouse and started my firefighting career. Through the next 4-plus decades, I served my community as volunteer and paid firefighter and as a paramedic in Bucks County.

In 1997, my wife, Kathy, and I brought the first of five Golden Retrievers into our home. We named our new puppy, Douglas of Mount Laurel, aka – Doug, in honor of a drug and alcohol counselor who walked me through steps of sobriety.  Then, in 2008, we adopted our first rescue, a Golden Retriever. For the next eight years, we adopted or fostered Golden Retrievers, all senior dogs.

After Molly crossed the rainbow bridge in 2016, we decided not to adopt again. That is until this spring, a friend messaged me about a posting on the Royce’ Rescue Facebook page.  The rescue had a Golden Retriever puppy, Oliver. I connected with Royce’s director, Linda. She talked about a beautiful two-year-old boy puppy who was well trained and loving.

We brought him home ten days later for a trial period and never looked back. My wife calls Oliver, the dog “that we were never going to get” dog. At the same time, I had decided that I would turn in my driver’s license due to health reasons.

Oliver has become my close companion. He stays with me night and day…like Velcro.  I have a history of panic/anxiety attacks, which are common with a diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  Having Oliver with me, I am having fewer panic and anxiety attacks. He knows when I am going to have them well before I do and stays closer to me at those times.

Oliver not only helps me through the tougher days, he is a de-stressor for my wife after her long days at work. At 85 pounds, he thinks he is a lap dog and curls up on her lap almost every night.

Oliver has become a very large part of the family. He loves my grandchildren and they absolutely adore him. Oliver brings laughter and joy into our house.  He is just so goofy!

My heart is full of gratitude for Linda at Royce’s Rescue for her assistance in adopting Oliver as well as his former owners who trained Oliver so perfectly.

Just when I thought all doors were closing, God provided another door, which contained a gift of life, named Oliver.

Lucy has completed an extensive board and train program with Sean Rivera at Absolute K-9 Training in New Hope. Here is what he has to say about Lucy:

Lucy has completed our most extensive obedience program!  She is trained both on leash and off leash. Our on-leash program consists of behaviors such as:

• sit, down, stand
• sit-stay, down-stay, stand- stay
• finish
• heeling: walking nice multiple ways
• place command
• come when called
• distance control, and much more

The principles she learned within our on-leash program are:
• engagment: having a connection with her handler
• leadership
• positive and negative reinforcement
• association
• marker, and a lot more

You will learn these principles and how they impact thinking and how they function.

The off-leash program is identical to the on leash behaviors but off leash. For example:  your dog will now stay off leash and recall off leash.  This is great because things aren't conditional to a leash. Sometimes a leash is absent or just inconvenient.

Lets talk about some of Lucy's other qualities outside of training that will make her a great companion.

Lucy has excellent kennel manners in that she's very clean in her kennel. She loves her bed and enjoys laying and watching all the activities going on around her.. She is  very quiet and patient for her leader; always waiting and ready for a walk or just time together hanging out. Additionally, Lucy is a great visual and vocal deterrent! She alerts to strangers pulling up and will alert you to any unwanted visitors.  She will guard her family with her life.

Lucy can be a great addition to your family!  She's seeking a forever home that longs to have a loyal, fun, and loving k9 companion!

DOG LOVERS, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
A small puppy, Dutchess needs surgery and she needs your help!

HER STORY: Dutchess is a 3 1/2 month old yellow Labrador who is having difficulty eating because she has a condition called Persistent Right Aortic Arch which is a vein from her heart that has wrapped around her esophagus.  Because she has difficulty eating, she is half the size of her litter mates at only 10 pounds.  She is well bred, but she can't be sold or bred because of her condition.  Royce's Rescue has taken in this puppy to give her the help she needs to live a full, healthy, long life.

WHY SHE NEEDS HELP:  Dutchess is having surgery today to repair this vein from her heart.  Without the surgery she could develop pneumonia as well as not being able to grow to her full potential.  The surgery is very expensive.  The wonderful folks at CARES (Center for Animal Referral and Emergency Services), a 24 hour Emergency Veterinary Care Hospital in Langhorne, PA and Dr. David Puerto, Dutchess' surgeon, have donated much to help her, but the cost of surgery and recovery will be extensive.

Please help us with the costs of Dutchess' surgery so she can live a happy, healthy life.  At this time we are not accepting applications for adoption until she has completely recovered from surgery.  We will keep you updated on her progress.

Your help is much appreciated!

URGENT REQUEST FROM ROYCE’S RESCUE!!
One of our rescue horses, Vission, needs your help.

HIS STORY: Vission came to us in 2012 when rising vet bills from recurrances of lameness forced his owner to consider euthanizing him. We heard about his plight and immediately knew we had to help this special boy. With rest and rehabilitation, Vission has done extremely well. He is teaching many young children how to ride, and he always brings home a ribbon from championship competitions. Vission has a great spirit and eagerness to please.

WHAT HAPPENED: On Tuesday, March 13th, Vission shattered his pastern, requiring immediate emergency surgery to put plates and screws in to hold his pastern together. It will be a long haul for Vission with many issues to overcome along the way. What a wonderful thing if he can come back to continue to teach young people how to ride!

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Vission’s vet bills are rising and will continue to rise with his rehabilitation. Please donate what you can to help return Vission to health . With your contribution, we can bring this phenomenal horse back so he can continue to bring joy to all the young people he helps.
We saved him once. With your help, we can save him again

We recently received 2 grants from the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation to help us with funding our spay and neutering progam. We received a grant from:

-The Margaret Haas Rotunno Memorial Fund for Local No Kill Shelters of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation

These funds are vital in helping us to spay & neuter cats and kittens to help control the cat population in our community.

We are very grateful and will certainly put the grants to good use!

WE ARE HAVING A BABY SHOWER!!

Bailey is a very sweet tabby who came to us last week ready to have her kittens. We would like to shower her with happiness that her babies will be well cared for and adopted into good homes.
HER STORY: A good-hearted woman noticed that Bailey was always hanging around in the back of her grocery store and she asked around about her. The employees knew that she was owned by one of the neighbors, and was put out when she became pregnant. Bailey had been living close to the dumpsters ever since. So the woman brought Bailey to us to find her a safe and loving place to have her kittens.
PLEASE SEND A DONATION IN LEAU OF GIFTS:

We estimate that with veterinary visits, tests, shots, medicines, spaying/neutering and food, the cost of caring for Bailey and the new kittens is estimated to be $1,600. The link to donate is located on this website at roycesrescue.com or use this link:
https://www.gofundme.com/royces-rescue-fundraising.
Please help us out to make Bailey's story a happy ending!
We will keep you up to date on her progress and post pictures of her kittens when they come and as they grow bigger. Thank you and please spread the word about our baby shower!!
